Kicking Horse Ski Resort
Kicking Horse has ‘The Champagne of Powders’ with sparkling, light and dry snow and ski terrain which once was only accessible by helicopter. The ‘Stairway to Heaven’ lift gives access to even more wide alpine bowls, steep slopes, bump runs and glades. It truly doesn’t get much better than this when you combine Kicking Horse with a stay in Banff or Lake Louise. Although the slope is more suited to intermediates and advanced skiers, beginners have some immaculately groomed runs from the Catamount chair. The Golden Eagle Express opens up to an area that splits into two alpine bowls dropping 1,000 feet in to the tree line. For some relaxation after a day on the slopes, head to the mini Scottish pub in the Highland Lodge and get some fire in your belly from the finest malt whiskies and cognacs. For dinner, try Eagle’s Eye, Canada’s highest restaurant at the top of the gondola station where you will enjoy a first-rate dining experience along with a breathtaking view of the Rocky and Purcell mountain ranges. Native cuisine includes buffalo, caribou and cedar-plank salmon. There is a good choice of restaurants down in the resort with more being invested in every year. The Day Lodge is open until 5pm for plentiful breakfasts, nourishing lunches and après ski. If health is top of the menu, try the Sushi Bar in Glacier Lodge.
