Ski Resorts in Italy

Italy's ski resorts fall into 2 distinct regions. The Italian Alps border the French and Swiss Alps and many of these link to French and Swiss ski resorts (yes, you will need your passports! ) and the Italian dolomites bordering Austria and Switzerland to the east.

Ski holidays to Italy have traditionally been cheaper than comparable ski holidays in France or Austria, as has the cost of food and drink in ski resorts and mountain restaurants.

Italy's ski resorts have a great snow record, and this is backed up by excellent snow making facilities.

Many Italians ski at the weekend, so the resorts tend to be crowded on Saturdays and Sundays, however, skiing is often a social occasion and fits in around a late start, long lunch, and early finish - so the queues may be longer in the mountain restaurants than at the lifts.

Italy was of course chosen to host the 2006 Winter Olympics, with resorts around Turin providing the stage for the world's greatest sporting spectacle.

It is worth noting that it compulsory for all children up to the age of 14 to wear helmets whilst skiing in Italy.
