Ski Resorts in Austria
When you think of skiing, Austria is one of the first destinations that spring to mind. because Austria is home to some of the most famous ski resorts in the world.
Most Austrian ski resorts are villages that have expanded to meet the needs of skiers. This means that Austrian ski resorts usually have charm and ambience in abundance, but lack the convenience of the ski-in, ski-out accommodation of purpose built ski accommodation. However, excellent ski bus and ski lift systems mean that getting on Austria's ski slopes is still easy.
Austria's après ski is the reason that many choose a ski holiday in Austria. Not everybody's cup of tea (or Stein of beer!); Much beer an schnapps will be consumed and German drinking songs and Europop are likely to be heard and it usually commences mid afternoon in mountain restaurants and continues for as long as you have the stomach and legs for it.
Austria's ski resorts are much lower then their French counterparts. This means there are many more tree lined runs that give them their picture postcard looks, however, snow conditions are more likely to be problematic in Austria. As a result many Austrian ski resorts have invested heavily in snow making equipment over recent years.
Accommodation in Austrian ski resorts is predominantly in hotels and chalets. There is very little self-catering accommodation available.
