Poiana Brasov Ski Resort

This breathtakingly beautiful resort is set amidst striking pine forests in the Carpathian mountains and is the perfect resort for beginners and intermediates. The good value après ski and brilliant ski facilities help make Poiana Brasov such an attractive resort amongst British tourists. Additionally, skiing is an option from autumn until spring due to the extensive snow making installation.

Beginners

The wide nursery pistes coupled with a compact ski area make an ideal location for beginners. To help you with your first endeavour amongst the snow-capped and scenic runs, there is an excellent English speaking ski school where classes are uncrowded providing a more friendly environment, great for any timid first-timers. By the end of your holiday you will have progressed to the blue run from the top of the Christianu Mare mountain right down to the village.

Intermediates

This is an agreeable scene for intermediates to build up their skills on the laid-back blue runs which are not congested and therefore offer plenty of space for perfecting trickier manoeuvres. The red runs spill over wide-ranging terrain and for those who are still uncertain of their skis, the ski school are more than happy to guide you around the landscape.

Advanced

This resort is best for beginners and intermediates. Advanced skiers will be perturbed by the lack of black runs but some will be very pleased by the Olympic ski-track, two 80 metre high ski-jumps, and 12 downhill and slalom runs.

Snowboarding

Poiana Brasov boasts slopes that are wonderful to learn on and fantastic off-piste trails for the advanced boarder.

Apres Ski

Nightlife in Poiana Brasov is varied, informal and excellent value for money. There are many bars, restaurants and discos to choose from and stay open until late. A bottle of beer costs approximately 80 pence and a bottle of wine is a very purse-friendly £3. The distinguished city of Brasov with its pubs and cellar bars is just 20 minutes away.

Activities

There is a superb range of excursions to choose from, and one certainly not to be missed is the visit to Bran Castle in Brasov, home to the legendary Count Dracula (and the former residence of the Romanian Royal Family). Also in the city are the tower and bastion fortifications dating from the fifteenth century, Saint Bartholomew church and the famous Black church which is the most arresting cathedral in Romania. You could also try wine tasting at the Carpathian Stag restaurant including folk music, dancing and Romanian cuisine.
